Faces of AIT
Here at AIT, the summer is a time to bid farewell to departing officers and welcome new friends to Taiwan. Some officers have been in Asia for years, while for others, coming to Taiwan is their first experience in Asia. Over the next few weeks AIT will share our #FacesofAIT series. Join us to hear directly from members of the AIT community as they reflect on their experiences in Taiwan. Our first post is below.

“I’ve been fascinated by the beauty of Taiwan’s most well-known natural wonders, such as Taroko National Park and Sun Moon Lake, or by the view from the top of Jade Mountain. But my fondest recollection of Taiwan’s beauty is that of quiet, remote places in its far-flung corners, for example the empty beaches I discovered on Little Jinmen, the wind-swept vistas of Hujingyu in the Penghu archipelago, the well-protected nature reserve that is Turtle Island, or the raw beauty of Orchid Island. I’ve especially been taken in by the cool, calming colors of these tiny islands in the off-season, when few people are present. Long after I leave Taiwan, I’ll always remember how, in each of these places, the grey skies merged with the aquamarine of the sea and the green lushness of the landscape to create an atmosphere of stillness and serenity, far away from the hustle-bustle of everyday life on Taiwan.” - Bill #FacesofAIT
